MARK VINCENT, 15-year-old opera singer from Caringbah in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire,  has won Australia’s Got Talent on the 22nd of April 2009 and the top prize of a quarter of a million dollars!

Mark Vincent and 12-year-old JAL JOSHUA were the last two acts remaining after

William Campbell, Danik Abishev, Nobel Lakaev, Cameo Rascale, David Splatt and Red Hot Rhythm were eliminated from the competition.

MARK VINCENT was raised by his grandfather from three months of age.  His grandfather recognised his talent and encouraged him to foster it through singing lessons.  Mark’s grandfather became ill, and it became his dying wish for him to perform on Australia’s Got Talent.  Sadly he never got to see him live out that wish, but Mark drew on his love and encouragement from his audition through to last night’s winning performance.

MARK says ‘I know it sounds weird, but when the smoke came up during my performance I looked up and past the audience and pictured the two of us together.  I could see his arm around me and it was just the two of us. It was like we were up in the clouds’.

MARK was happy just to have made it to the Semi Finals and subscribed to his grandfather’s favourite saying that ‘nothing great is ever easy’.   But the hard work leading to, and during, the series has paid off and Mark now knows opera singing is something he wants to do for the rest of his life.

MARK plans to finish Year 11 and 12 at De La Salle College, Caringbah and then wants to head overseas to visit his Italian relatives.  His dream is to study at the Conservatorio di musica Giuseppe (the Milan Conservatory) – the leading musical institution in Italy that educated  alumni Giacomo Puccini.

Listen to Jal Joshua singing

“Somewhere Over The Rainbow”

“You’ll Never walk Alone”

Jal Joshua’s beautiful, strong voice has the power to bring people to tears, according to his singing teacher who believes the 12-year-old has a good chance of winning Australia’s Got Talent 2009.

Kim Durant has been tutoring the Cleveland boy for the past six months after her husband Alan Beard discovered him singing at a talent contest at a Redlands sporting club.

“I couldn’t believe what I was looking at. The club just stopped. People came from everywhere to listen. He’s just extraordinary,’’ he said.
Jal Joshua is, by a huge margin, the best young singer that either Kim or I have ever heard.’’

Little Josh, as he is known, moved to the area with his parents and younger brother a year ago from the Philippines.
His mother Jocelyn Lebumnfacil said Josh had been attracted to music since he was an infant and just loved to sing, his talent surprising his parents who are not singers.

“He was the one who wanted to do the competition. I was protective, thinking he might be embarrassed he might not cope. He’s still very young,’’ she said.
“He’s a bit nervous when he first sings but once he’s out there he gets down a bit. I’m more nervous than him.’’

On Saturday 18 April 2009, Shaheen Jafargoli shot to fame after an excellent performance on the show of Britain’s Got Talent (BGT). He is a schoolboy of Iranian descent who lives in UK. He was born in Swansea (a city in Wales), UK, in 1997.

Last Saturday, Shaheen started his audition singing Valerie (a song by The Zutons) and he was interrupted by tough judge Simon Cowell, who firstly remarked “You got this really wrong”, and he then said that he was unhappy with the Shaheen’s song choice.

After Cowell sternly questioned the young man what other songs he could sing, Shaheen just flashed his dimples and chose the Michael Jackson track. By doing that, he immediately won over Cowell and his co-judges and became an instant internet sensation and a YouTube Star. Shaheen’s mom Karen and dad Jafargholi, who waited backstage during his performance, were reportedly thrilled with their son’s success.

No stranger to perform in front of a crowd, Shaheen has previously acted in television shows such as Casualty, Torchwood and Grandpa in My Pocket, all on the BBC. Shaheen has also toured on stage as a young Michael Jackson in Thriller Live. He featured in BBC documentary Starstruck, where cameras followed him for six months. Shaheen also switched on the Christmas lights in Swansea city centre in front of 30,000 people. He even keeps an impressive schedule, balancing school in Mount Pleasant, Swansea in Wales with classes at the Mark Jermin Stage School, where he has reportedly been attending since the age of five.

Modern society is too quick to judge people on their appearances. … There is not much you can do about it; it is the way they think; it is the way they are. But maybe this could teach them a lesson, or set an example.

In her success, we see a phoenix rising from the ashes of disappointment, sadness and heartbreak. We see prosperity after recession. We see good trumping evil, and we see a restoration, albeit ever so slightly, to the belief that dedication and perseverance can pay off in the end.

Nick Barron, Societrends

After Boyle’s performance, Holden stated:

I am so thrilled because I know that everybody was against you. I honestly think that we were all being very cynical, and I think that’s the biggest wakeup call ever. And I just want to say that it was a complete privilege listening to that.

Amanda Holden, Britain’s Got Talent

Just like the judges and audience, I was gob-smacked by the emotional powerhouse performance of Susan Boyle’s show-stopping rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream”. Vocally, it is one of the best versions of the song I’ve ever heard—touching, thrilling and uplifting. I do hope she gets to sing it for the Queen.
